You have a yearly inspection at an apartment? Yikes! Not sure if that is a new thing or my state is just “lax”.... but way back when I last had an apartment..... damn that was many decades ago.... they did not do that.
Ah, ok. I remember when I had a really dumpy, basement apartment back in graduate school where I had to call in the Manager because the toilet started leaking from the tank. Luckily I was relatively neat and did not leave my work all around the floor or it would have gotten ruined from the water. He did comment on the heaping full ash trays filled with spent pipe tobacco on nearly every table, though.... I hadn’t gotten around to emptying them for a while, I admit.

They just check for things that need to be fixed or things that are hazards.
