What to do

Drove the Black Bitch around some more yesterday, to bad the motor is so worn, EVERYTHING on that car works, cruise control, A/C, everything. Not bad to for something I paid 260 bucks for, only have about 320 in it now. I should be able to find a decent used motor for her that doesn’t cost to much. I think that instead of putting the front bumper cover and grill back on her that I should Mad Max her some and paint her a flat black, hahahahaha Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Art

The art going on the end of the Red Wagon is looking pretty spiffy. Drove the Black Bitch about 8 miles yesterday just to check things out some, more about that later.
Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Art

Started the Black Bitch yesterday and no knock noise so maybe it still has a few miles left in it but I’m not sure I’d head cross county in it. Have a bit more work to do on it before I test drive it.
Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Know when to fold them...

Sometimes fixing a well used car on the cheap to get some more life out of it is just an exercise in futility. After putting a new rod bearing on #3 there was clearly to much clearance, even I get skunked once in a while. I’ll shim it some but you can only do so much with shims on an egg shaped crank throw. So now it is just something to fart around with for the heck of it. It may last for 20 thousand miles or only 20 miles, who knows. But I’m not going to the expense of rebuilding the engine properly, it’s fucking expensive to rebuild these modern engines.

Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Safe passage

I don’t think a hospital should release anyone that doesn’t have transportation to a safe place. Sunday evening a neighbors ex hubby, who lives out of town went to the hospital and they checked him out and said he was just having dizzy spells and released him. He is 80 years old, he tried to call her for a ride but she turns her phone off at night so he decided to walk the five miles to her place, that is a stretch for an 80 year old that likely hasn’t walked more than a block for years. He got just a little over half way when the police picked him up and took him the rest of the way. Monday morning they was back at her place to take him to the hospital again. Anyway, it is my un-humble fucking opinion that folks should not be released without safe transportation somewhere. There is no cab or bus service here at night, I think that if push comes to shove that the police should take folks to a safe place in such cases, after all, we all pay taxes for their service to the community.

Keep??

I would keep it but upgrade the engine and transmission.

Right the first time

I wuz right, then wrong, then right again, or sumting like dat. When I got the pan off the car and saw all the crap in the bottom of it I thought I must be wrong about it being a rod bearing (sure sounded like a rod bearing) and it must be the main crankshaft thrust bearing. After getting the bastard bolt out yesterday and removing the damn counter balance assembly I was able to check things out and it turned to be the #3 rod bearing, in over fifty years of wrenching I’ve never seen one completely destroyed but every damn bit of it, even the shell, was in the bottom of the pan.

Amazingly the crank and rod appear to still be in good shape so I’m going to replace all the rod bearings, with luck it will go another fifty thousand miles or more. I’m not going to put that damn counter balance unit back on, surprised an H.O. engine even had one on it.
Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Old Crosley

Took a bit of a slack day yesterday, did work on the bastard bolt some but it takes a while using Harbor Freight drill bits. It’s only a ten mm bolt, a wonder it didn’t snap off when they installed it so tight. Meanwhile there was an old Crosley at Auto Zone, to put things in perspective they were only about half the size of an old Jeep station wagon, would be a cool little rig to tool around town in.

Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Hum.....

Well shit, got the oil pan off the Black Bitch yesterday and discovered that the H.O. turbo engine also has a heavy duty dual counter balance shaft assembly installed under the crankshaft, and the son of a bitch has a mounting bolt that was installed over specs. I broke a standard six point socket trying to loosen it so I went to an impact socket and a long breaker bar and it just rounded off the head of the bolt. It is in a tight spot and no special remover will work so I suppose I’ll have to drill or grind the head of the bolt off.

And from the looks of the shit in the pan when I got it off I’m guessing that isn’t from a rod bearing but the crankshaft main thrust bearing. Maybe I’ll find out today, if I can get that fucking bolt out.

Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Today !!!

TODAY…….. Maybe……. I think. A modern car with a turbocharger on it has a lot of extra plumbing on it that you may have to deal with when working on other things and I can only work under a car about two hours a day without my body getting to sore to work the next day. Yesterday after crawling under it about a dozen times I got to where there is just the oil pan bolts to remove then I can get the pan off and check the rod bearings. I felt good yesterday and could have got it off then but didn’t want to chance feeling like crap today. I know many of you aren’t interested in repair posts but that is what I do, repair shit.
Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Cool

Carrol was going through some of her boxes of shit from previous lives and I spotted an old Plews oil can…. Hot damn, cleaned it up some and it’s mine now, they were way better oil cans than most of the shit you can buy these days.

Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Weak mounts

The Black Bitch is a turbocharged car, they produce 40 to 50 more horse power than the standard P.T. Cruisers so were subject to more abuse by those that liked putting the pedal to the metal. That made life a bit hard on the lateral motor mounts that keep the engine from twisting during acceleration. I’ll put more solid mounts on it if I decide the car is worth fixing up. And I will neuter the turbo being as I don’t care about the extra horsepower.
Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.

Progress

I guess slow progress is better than no progress, yes? Saturday I moved the Black Bitch to where I’ll be working on it.
The next challenge was to remove the four “locking lug nuts” from the wheels being as I don’t have the so called key to remove them with. There are a lot of ways to do that depending on the tools you have but the first thing I always try is to use a five pound hammer to drive a 12 point socket on them and use an impact gun to rattle them off, if that doesn’t work there are other ways that involves more work. The socket may want to spin but let it spin until some heat builds up and it grabs the nut better, in this case all four nuts came off so that was good.
Then I got her up on blocks and next I’ll see how easy it is to remove the oil pan so I can check the rod bearings, pretty sure at least one of them is worn out.
Anyway, have a fucking blessed day.
